    In the eighth century BC island of S. Antioco was colonized by the Phoenicians who established an important trading base. Sant'Antioco developed especially during the reign of Carlo Emanuele III who made ​​several useful reforms for the development of the town.

Lovers of the cliffs can choose between Is Praneddas, Cala della Signora, Cala Grotta and Nido dei passeri. Sant'Antioco is dotted with coves accessible only by sea, as the impressive grotta di Portu e' Su Drigu. On the island of S. Antioco you can visit many archaeological remains like the Tophet Fenicio dating from the eighth century BC, an archaeological site formerly dedicated to the burial of children. On the island of S. Antioco are also located other archaeological monuments such as the Punic Necropolis, the underground village, the Forte Sabaudo, known as "Sa Guardia de su Pisu" built on the highest point in Sant 'Antioco. You can visit the Ethnographic Museum Su Magasinu de su Binu and the Municipal Archaeological Museum.
